and the cultivation of cotton, millet and plaice planted on the outskirts of the municipal head in its flat, also cattle breeding: cows, horses and pigs. All this made Bolivar an important economic centre, where trade gained importance in the purchase of coffee, the millo, of cotton.
He spent as a primary activity to a more evolved. Indirectly to this central economic activity developed in numerous environments stores of clothing, footwear stores, veterinary medicine stores, shops and cafés, brothels, etc. Finally, with the increased money in circulation were opened headquarters of major banks in the country.
Bolivar at the start was called Santa Ana de el Pescador, its territory is mostly hilly to descend to the Valley of the Cauca River. It was founded in 1567 in lands of Indians gorrones, making it one of the oldest municipalities of the Valle del Cauca.
Due to its proximity to the city of Tulua, the inhabitants of the municipality of Bolívar have the possibility of studying in the Tulua UCEVA or in the different headquarters of the Universidad del Valle in the Centre and North of the Valle. It also boasts institutions of great recognition in Latin America as the INTEP located in the municipality of Roldanillo where also many of our young people have easy access to technical education.
